Testing IELTS

Ikhwah Fillah Rohimakumulloh, Sudah cukup lama saya tidak mengisi blog, karena sibuk dengan testing IELTS. Testing ini cukup menghantui saya, karena batas waktu yang diberikan oleh kantor saya sudah mendekati injury time. Memang untuk yang mempunyai kemampuan bahasa rata-rata, cukup sulit juga untuk mendapatkan nilai overall 6.5 on Ielts dan individual band for writing must be 6. Kalau kita sering latihan, mungkin agak lebih mudah untuk mendapatkan nilai 6 pada section listening dan writing. Tetapi untuk memperbaiki section writing dan speaking sangat direkomendasikan untuk ikut kursus dulu sekali saja untuk mengetahui strateginya. 

Untuk writing, saya sharing kisi-kisinya terutama untuk section 2 (250 words) aja, karena menurut saya section 1 (150 words) tidak terlalu susah. Untuk jenis pertanyaan agree or disagree to some extent, maka structure of composition should: General Statement, thesis dan kalimat alasan sebagai penghubung ke body, Body dan Conclusion with thesis. 

Kalo jenis pertanyaannya discussion, strukturnya adalah: General Statement, Body dan Conclusion with thesis. Yang dimaksud dengan thesis adalah my opinion, ex. I highly agree that sports subject is very important for children at school. Kemudian teknik untuk penulisan body-nya: pakai zigzag theory, ex. Most people agree that...However, some people argued that...terus di support dengan informasi from newspaper and mass media, quotation from scientists, and experiences. So, we address that topics in every angle of view. Trus, ketika nulis, usahakan ada "Tango sentence", ex. A technology makes it easier for people to communicate with other people all over the world. 

Jangan lupa juga menggunakan the linking word such as to begin with, moreover, interestingly, on the other hand and to sum up. Better avoid using linking word like firstly, secondly, thirdly dan singkatan kata: don't, isn't. Dan harus diingat, jangan sampai "tidak ada conclusion" dalam karangannya. 

Begitu juga kiat dalam speaking. Kita harus memberikan reasons atas jawaban kita. Dan tidak lupa memberikan contoh-contoh. Untuk diingat, section 2 dan section 3 dalam speaking is the most important part to get higher score. For section 2, we have an opportunity to speak about the certain topic approximately 2 minutes without interruption. 

Sedangkan untuk section 3, jawaban kita lebih panjang tetapi masih dalam scope pertanyaan terutama untuk pertanyaan yang sangat kita kuasai dan juga tidak perlu dipaksakan untuk selalu panjang, ex. What's your activities in your relaxed time? I like reading newspapers such as Kompas, Republika and Media Indonesia. In addition, I like reading magazines. I subscribe an Economic magazine. Sometimes, I also like watching television programmes and playing a badminton. 

Do you prefer traveling by public transportation? I prefer traveling by public transportation such as by a plane especially to go to other provinces because it doesn't spend much time to arrive at destination. Sometimes, I also like travelling by a train because it is very interesting, I can do sightseeing through the windows. However, for a short distance, I prefer traveling with my family by my private car, because I have much flexible time to stop over at some restaurants. 

The most important thing in speaking section, we should think positively, we pretend that we speak with our friends. Good luck semoga bermanfaat buat teman-teman yang masih dalam perjuangan untuk sekolah lagi ke luar negeri.
